GEOTAB SUPPORT

How do you switch Geotab resellers?

Yes, you can change Geotab resellers. Geotab’s published partner policy says customers are free to choose their partner. In most cases the change is a billing transfer, not a new system, so it does not by itself mean replacing your devices or starting over.

The details depend on your agreement and account. This is a plain-English summary of the process in Geotab’s partner policies. Check it against your own contract before you act.

  1. 1Check your agreement
  2. 2Confirm what you own
  3. 3Sign the transfer form
  4. 4New reseller opens a ticket
  5. 5Geotab moves billing
  6. 6Update administrator
  7. 7Choose support

1. Check your current agreement

Before you do anything, read your contract with your current reseller. Look for unpaid invoices, a service term, automatic renewal, notice requirements, and anything else you still owe. Geotab’s policy asks customers to confirm there are no impediments, such as unpaid invoices or continuing obligations, before a transfer starts.

2. Confirm what you own

Find out whether you own your devices or lease them, and whether your current reseller has any rights to proprietary data or functions in your database. Also list anything your old reseller built for you, such as custom reports or add-ins. Geotab notes that a previous partner’s Marketplace integrations and specialized implementations may not be transferable.

3. Ask your current reseller to sign the transfer form

The form is called the Request to Transfer Billing. Your current reseller may try to keep you, and they are allowed to. If you are leaving and have no outstanding obligations, Geotab’s policy says they should sign without delay, and they should not shut off your devices while billing is being moved. If they refuse, Geotab may proceed on your request and your new reseller’s signature.

4. Your new reseller opens the request with Geotab

Send the signed form to your new reseller. They open a support ticket with Geotab, attaching the signed form and a list of your device serial numbers.

5. Geotab moves the billing

Geotab moves your devices to the new reseller’s billing account, effective the first of the month. Devices with connectivity that Geotab does not manage, such as some consigned SIM cards, can need extra steps, and a few may not be transferable. Ask about this early if you have older devices.

6. Set up your administrator and users

Assign a new administrator in MyGeotab and remove your old reseller’s users from your database. Geotab can help with this when you give written approval.

7. Decide on Geotab Support Services

Your new reseller confirms whether you want to keep Geotab Support Services. If you do, they add your database to support. If you do not, the database is opted out after the transfer.

What the policy does not tell you

The public policy page does not state notice periods, current transfer fees, or your rights to export your data. Ask your current and new reseller about each one, and get the answers in writing.

How Fleet Wolf handles it

Fleet Wolf only works on a reseller change when the customer asks for it. Geotab reviews every transfer and expects partners not to solicit another partner’s customers, so we will not chase your account. If you are unsure whether to move, start with a review of what you have, because the problem is sometimes the setup and not the reseller. See how a Geotab account review works, or book a call and bring your questions.
